I recently went on a much-needed vacation to Riviera Maya in Mexico. This was my first time visiting Mexico and I absolutely loved it! My boyfriend and I stayed for 5 days, 4 nights at the most gorgeous resort. We stayed at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya. This is the second Secrets Resort that we have stayed at because the resorts are so captivating. The first Secrets Resort that we ever stayed at was in Costa Rica, and this was in January 2017. You can read that blog post here. The guest rooms are HUGE!! Complete with jacuzzis, walk-in shower’s, private balconies and private swim-up pools on the first floor. The workers are always very friendly and accommodating and the grounds are very clean and well kept. I HIGHLY recommend this resort.

We flew out of LAX straight into Cancun. The flight was about 5 hours even though it felt like half my life. We attended a welcome dinner on the first night, but since we didn’t get in until 9 p.m. we didn’t stay out too late. It also rained the first night, but thankfully that (and one other afternoon) saw, because it was predicted to rain the entire trip. Thankfully it did not. I absolutely love afternoon rainstorms. I literally fell asleep on the balcony.
On the second day we went on a catamaran excursion! Unfortunately I got SUPER sea-sick. Like I was MISERABLE, with a capital M. A few of us had to take dramamine (which is used to treat motion sickness and nausea). After about 45 minutes, the boat stopped and people were able to go snorkeling. I didn’t snorkel, but I did get off the boat and float in the ocean. The water was so gorgeous. Anyone who knows me knows I’m super dramatic, so I had one of the boat workers attach me to a buoy that was attached to the boat LOL. #DramaQueen, but #NoRegrets. We were out on the boat for about 5 hours. Aka the longest 5 hours of my life. When we finally got back to the resort, we headed straight to the BEACH. The resort had sooo many pools, I couldn’t keep count. I wanted to visit a different one each day, but of course the cabanas on the beach, and beach bar had my heart.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was visiting the Tulum Ruins. Tulum is absolutely gorgeous. I’m sure you guys have seen pictures of Tulum plenty of times on Instagram. I’ve wanted to visit Tulum (and Mexico) for so long and I’m so thankful I finally got the chance. The guided tour of the ruins was incredible. If you go, I recommend visiting early in the morning before it gets hot (and crowded). I also went to the spa and got a massage. They also offered hydrotherapy as an option at the spa. Hydrotherapy is an incredible type of water therapy. The different water temperatures (very hot or very cold) help to to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being!! I chose to do both the hydrotherapy and get a massage.
